Micelle Press is a specialist publisher and bookseller of books on cosmetics, toiletries, perfumes, surfactants and other specialty materials.

Founded in 1984, Micelle Press is an independent publishing company, operated as a partnership between Anthony Hunting and Janet Hunting.

As a result of his experience of over 20 years working in the cosmetic and toiletry raw materials supply industry in the United States and United Kingdom, Anthony Hunting has become familiar with many of the problems that beset current-day formulators. Having run Micelle Press for over 25 years, he has added extensive publishing expertise to his knowledge of cosmetics.

As well as publishing its own books, which it distributes throughout the world, Micelle Press also represents the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC, formerly known as CTFA) of the United States.

In addition, Micelle Press sells some of the books published by Verlag für chemische Industrie H. Ziolkowsky GmbH (SÖFW) of Germany, and by Chemical  Publishing Company of the United States.

Dentistry and Oral Care

Micelle Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of the first of two volumes of an important new book, written by Dr Paul Riley, with the provisional title of Dentistry and Oral Care. This first volume, entitled A History of Dentistry, gives a detailed account of the early providers of dental treatment, particularly in Britain, France and the United States, and the development of the dental professions, dental schools, qualifications and literature, the early history of women in dentistry, children’s dental health, anaesthetics, X-rays and dental equipment. The second volume, provisionally entitled The Development of Oral Hygiene Products, will focus on the development of modern therapeutic dentifrices and dentifrice formulations. The development of other oral hygiene products, such as mouthwashes and chewing gum, and of mechanical tooth-cleaning devices, such as toothbrushes and dental floss, will be covered in detail.

Dr Riley, formerly Development Manager in the Global Applications Unit and Supply Chain Technologist for Unilever at its Port Sunlight Laboratory in the United Kingdom, is currently a consultant in the science and technology of oral care products.  He is a member of the Lindsay Society for the History of Dentistry.

Both volumes are well illustrated and comprehensively documented, and they would thus complement the studies of students enrolled on university courses in dentistry.  Their detailed treatment of the development of the dental profession and dental products will be of interest both to the practising clinician and to the cosmetic chemist. They will also appeal to the lay reader, since they provide, in non-technical language, a fascinating insight into a science that is critically important for the maintenance of health and well-being.
